A single-leg exercise performed holding a dumbbell in each hand, stepping forward to build leg strength, balance and stability.
How to do it
- Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
- Step forward with one leg, lowering your hips until both knees bend to roughly 90 degrees.
- Keep your torso upright and your front knee over your foot, not past your toes.
- Push through your front heel to return to the starting position.
- Alternate legs or complete all reps on one side, depending on your program.
Coaching tips
- Take a controlled, moderate step — too short strains the front knee, too long makes balance harder.
- Keep your core braced throughout to stay stable, especially with heavier dumbbells.
- A great single-leg option for home gyms with just a pair of dumbbells.
Common mistakes
- Letting the front knee travel too far past the toes.
- Leaning the torso forward instead of staying upright.
